Hi All,Did the comparison last night. The 1541A DAC was decoupled by 100uF and surface mount ceramics on the powerlines and had 0.22uF current bit decoupling caps.
The 1541S1 DAC was decoupled by 100uF bypassed with 0.22 uF polyesters and the current bit decoupling caps were also 0.22uF, but of a different make when compared with the 1541A.
In both cases, IV conversion was via a resistor (22 ohm).
For all intents and purposes, the two DACs sounded the same. I would have expected that the S1 would show better low level detail, given its better linearity, but I was not able to detect this.
One strange thing I found was that the DAC seemed immune to power supply improvements. I was running the 1541S1 from a dedicated +-5 and -15V supply, while the 1541A was using the PS used by the rest of the CD player.
Oh well, so much for that experiment.
Ciao
Ryan
