I am building a +/- 30VDC @8A preamp supply. In specifying Black Gates, I get a bill of $963 for the electrolytics (unreg section, reg input, reg output, adjust pin bypass). These are great capacitors and I have used them before, but . . .If I go with Nichicon, for example, the cost is about $200.
Does anyone have an opinion whether the extra $750 for the Black Gates will provide a payback -- that is, would the Nichicons be any kind of sonic compromise in this application? The supply is rather simple: LT1085/LT1033 with MJ11015/6 series-pass transistors.
