The heart of a passive pre amp is a pot -either a slider type or even better a stepped type with a good switch and fixed resistors. M. Percy describes several and supplies the parts --it up to you to do the box and in and out. I use the expensive Elma switch kit that came with Holco resistors and upgraded to Vishays in the series positions. This in incorporated in a standard pre amp with switching so that if will serve both active or passive without changing connections. Percy`s catalogue with tell you much. Max
