For $20, I bought a mat of Sorbothane from edmund scientific. I cut some squares from it and placed them under the feet of my speakers (I have hardwood floors). The difference was phenominal. Alot of bloated bass disapeared, leaving tight tuneful bass in its place. My scientific take on this is that by decoupling the speakers with the vibration absorbing sorbothane is that alot of the bass energy was prevented from escaping into the floor where it could resonate all it wanted...
