I have a pair of 555II's that I have modified myself. You can learn more about them in Audio Amateur magazine. They include:
1) Replacing some of the caps in the signal path with MIT multicaps.
2) Adding a heavier ga. power cord.
3) Adding regulation to the power supply. This was the most expensive mod but made the biggest improvement of all. The 555's fan kit from Adcom was also used to help keep the amps cool.Obviously these are not mods that everyone can take on themselves. But if you have the know how to do them they really do pay sonic rewards.
