The best way to go is to use the conductors from each cable separately-all 3 conductors in 1 wire should be positive, all three in the other negative, and all three in the third ground. As you said, attach drain wires only at socket end, and the marinco plugs are nice. Might I recommend ferrites on your hot/neutral wires?(do not put one on ground)The improvement is very much worthwhile.
