Platinum Audio Crossover mods, detailed questions on Inductors et al....

209.244.179.43

I have been in the process of upgrading my speakers crossover parts to take the edge out of the sound. The drivers are 2X 6" and one tweet in a DiAppollito configuration. I don't know the specs on the drivers and know that this is vital to crossover design. Given that here is what I DO know. Can anyone make some suggestions for upgrading the sound given this information?:

Components:
2.0 uf electrolytic - (all swapped with cheap Dayton Met. Polypro)
3.0 uf electrolytic
6.8 uf electrolytic
10 uf electrolytic

2x 5W 1ohm resistors
1X 5W 1ohm resistor

.28 mH iron ferrite core, aprox 18 GA and 2 inches long
.6 mH rron ferrite core, aprox 20-22 GA and 1.75 inches long
1.7 iron ferrite core, aprox 22-24 GA and 1.5 inches long
the cores are about 1/2 inch thick, W/UNKNOWN DCR

Misc. Information:
I know that the crossover is a "2.5 way" whatever that means. And that the crossover frequency is 200Hz and 2.5KHz. The box is ported with three ports, tuned to an unknown frequency. Dimentions in cm are 23 X 30 X 97, and it is constructed out of braced 3/4 inch MDF with a small ammount of thin, not dense, and probably not effective steel wool like dampenting material on the back wall The speakers are rated at 6ohms.

If I have not bored you yet....Here is what I am looking to achieve:

I have replaced the electrolytic capacitors with some cheap Dayton Met. Polypro capacitors. These taken the and edge out of the sound, and I wouldn't want to go back to Electro's but I feel as though they're slower. I have always felt like i am missing some clarity ESPECIALLY in the bass when the volume gets loud. My guess is that this is the sound of these cheap Iron Ferrite cores saturating. I have read that a CFAC inductor is the best for sound and is not subject to hysteria, or frequency dependant L. How do I go about changing the Inductors and resistors without messing up the fairly good integration of the drivers and changing the XO freq? Any other suggestions? I am gun-ho about trying anything and not afraid of technical data, because I want to learn anything I can.

Thanks
