Hi Sobbing,first, cheer up .... it's only hi-fi.
Second, it sounds like a bad connection. Are you sure the tweeter is cutting out as well as the bass unit? If so, then the fault will be between the binding posts and the crossover.
If you are feeling brave enough to take your speaker apart, check all the wire/component connections and re-solder them if necessary.
