Would like to build a stepped/ladder attenuator. Is there any alternatives to paying $150-300 bucks for "fancy" rotary switches (Elma/Shalco/Grayhill etc. )in some of the high end parts catalogs. Has anyone tried something under $50 that has worked well? For instance the 24 step Electroswitch (Allied) or a 12 step Mountain Switch (Mouser)?
Am I correct in assuming that the switch needs to be the make before break type? Also, to build a stereo attenuator what specifically in the specification of the switch would tell me its stuitable for stereo.... would that be number of poles... 2 poles = stereo???
Thanks and happy holidays.
