Tweakers' Asylum Tweaks for systems, rooms and Do It Yourself (DIY) help. FAQ. |

Hi,
I recently got a vintage Accuphase T-101 tuner, which is regarded by many as one of the finest sounding solid state tuners ever made.
Upon closer inspection of the circuits I was suprised to see a number of Tantalum capacitors (~12 in total) used in the audio section of the unit. After seeing numerous posts on this site bashing the use of such capacitors in audio circuits, I am wondering if I should replace these with high quality film types. Even the ouput caps are 10 Mfd 16 volt tantalums which are small oval-drop shaped in style. While this tuner is very good sounding it doesn't quite have the same smooth highs that several of my vintage tube tuners exhibit. I was wondering if replacing these caps would be worthwhile and would improve the audio quality?
Any feedback is appreciated.Regards,
