I have had my components on the brick area in front of my fireplace for the past few months. While they were not blocking the fireplace, I'm sure they were providing some kind of damper or dispersion effect.I had a small get-together and wanted to use the fireplace, so I moved the components off to the side. I placed a 2" thick piece of granite on the carpet, and put my ss monoblocks down first. I know the following is less than ideal, but I then stacked the remaining components on top of the amps, and on top of each other, with small squares of semi-hard foam between each component at the corners.
It now seems as if the music is not as dynamic and appealing. I'm not sure if it's the component arrangement, or the opening in the fireplace. I was hoping to get some feedback on whether I should pursue a component rack first, or buy/build some sort of diffuser to be placed at the fireplace opening while listening. I just had a brainstorm: I wonder if a pile of wood in the grate would help? I'll try it when I get home.
thanks for any feedback...
