I still like my current setup though I've heard that it doesn't work for others. I made a six tube unit that runs front to back between the speakers with the front tube lined up between the tweeters. My 2 three tube units are between the speakers and side walls. They run side to side approximatly 2 inches behind the line between the tweeters and toed in to match the speakers. I have never gained anything with a lens behind the listening position and don't like the sound with the lenses just outside the speakers as Argent suggests. My room is welled padded and tube trapped so that may be the difference. Experiment. Once you find the right position, you won't want to listen without them.
