hello Thorsten,I read with much interest your article "Thermionic Valve Analogue Stages for Digital Audio". Congratulations on an EXCELLENT article, which spawned my interest in creating a valve output stage for an old multibit player I have (Philips CD300, with 2x TDA1540D (D/As) and SAA7020 (Not sure what this is????, Filter, processor??).
I have discussed this with a knowledgable valve friend and I would like to ask whether you feel that your design for a multibit DAC output stage could be modified from SRPP to use a single triode output. (sorry about my terminology, I am not well versed in tubes, I will try to expalain)...
1.Keep the analogue filter section (with de-emphasis section) as per your article
2. use only one triode half (in your diagram the lower triode half with pins 6,7&8), with pin 7 (grid) & 8 (cathode) connected as per your diagram.
3. pin 6 (anode)of the triode connected to B+ and to output via 2 x 0.47uF caps (perhaps 3x 0.46uF if using 417A tube).
I know this expalnation is not the best, (my ignorance with tubes), but hopefully you will understand. I am working on how I can post a diagram of the suggestion along with this post, but as yet have not found a way with the usual cut & paste. I will keep trying. If you have any suggestions here these would also be welcome.Best Regards,
JOEY.
