RE: Not really.....

I know the test I did did not test the neutral, I was too tired to mess around in the breaker panel safely that evening.

The lineman took the meter out of the socket and inspected all the connections EXCEPT the neutral at the pole.

I'm aware of the neutral being grounded and yes we are grounded at the pole end too. My original ground for my 40 year old house was bonded to the water service entrance. When I had the new box put in, they installed a standard ground rod and bonded both grounds together at the box. I actually did think about this possibility because it's been raining the past couple of days, perhaps increasing the conductivity of the ground.

If the lights start flickering again, I will see if there's a potential between neutral and ground and I will do the test as you guys outlined.

I will call the power company and request to speak to one of their EE's. My father was an EE and his first job out of college was as an EE for a power company :-) Yes a recording meter is very likely the next step.
