RE: Aye, cynical I am

Q: Are my chunk style corner traps actually doing some 'serious' trapping? The dimensions again are 2' by 2' by 1.66', in a triangular form.

A: Depends. What panels or material are you using? How thick is it? Density? Until I know the details. I can't comment.

Q: Now, my next question is similar I think to another one in in of the other recent bass trap threads. That is, would having capped the ends and leaving the centres hollow made them more effective?

A: Possibly, depends on the info I asked for above.

Japesgalore wrote: "Ethan Winer denies that this would be the case, saying that using rockwool type material as the barrier automatically makes the trap absorbative in principal, rather than pressured."

Reply: Not necessarily, it depends on the material, density and thickness, etc.
In most cases, Ethan is wrong.

Japesgalore wrote: "I've read another poster claim that he prefers his tube traps filled."

Yes, I responded to that one, it appears that this individual's DIY tube trap was "broken", in that it was not properly constructed. If you add absorptive material to a 'broken' tube trap, it will act like a band-aid, and help fix it somewhat. With a properly constructed tube trap, adding absorptive material to the center hollow area will not increase the bass absorption that much, and may actually reduce it's effectiveness at the lower bass frequencies.
