Use a stepped attenuator and follow the schematics shown (taken from the gold point attenuator web site). If you are using only 1 source asnd don't care for recording as well, you can forego all the switches shown in the schematic. All the usual caveat regarding the use of short interconnects with low capacitance applies.
Also check out Joe Curcio's (spelling ?) web site. I don't have the address offhand. He has a similar schematic with the exception of 2 caps connecting the ground pin of the attenuator to the chassis ground.
