Jon and all,I think it might be worthwhile looking at a bit of history when it comes to me and cables....
I use to work in Pro-Audio as sound-engineer and also designed the odd bit of equipment.... Talking to me back then about Cables I'd said:
Wire! Sounding Different!? Pull the other one....
So hence when I found cables to sound different I also started a long stretch of evaluations. Somehow and surprisingly I find myself agreeing with Doc B....
I prefer copper over Silver (though using Silver-Wire in certain positions INSIDE equipment can be used to balance out the sound) and PE over PTFE....
Interestingly, both of us (Doc B and myself) use SE Triode Amplifiers and Zero Feedback designs with a lot of Vinyl as source.
In my case CD is still essentially a non-issue (I'm determined to see DVD Audio going with my analog rig still doing the major duty as source....) as I cant find for the life of me a CD-Player that actually sounds like music when playing such....
So, it seems that there is still some system dependency in Cables.
Maybe PE has colorations that work "symphatically" with Zero Feedback SE stuff? Maybe Teflon causes some that are not "symphatically" with such designs? Who is to say....
Later Thorsten
Who listens at the moment to pseudo-balanced copper-litz Wires in PE - tubes leaving the wire suspended mostly in air (with loads of space and air between the two conductors and with a shield spaced well away from the Conductors) as well Copper & PTFE/Air Interconnects recently dubbed "Die Wunderwaffe" - the interconnect to ensure "den Endsieg" of analogue and valve audio.... ;-)
