I constructed my own version of the DIY Rollerblocks with wood and spoon bowls and I too was floored at the improvement it made. I used them under my MSB Link DAC. More air to the soundstage, tighter bass, more dimension, etc. Only negative was it seemed to add a tad bit of brightness. I couldn't believe it. But I knew that ultimately this was a quite crude rendition of the real thing, since the real Rollerblocks use a intricate design of the base where it is made of aluminum and is stuffed with vibration dampening material, as opposed to my block of wood. A Rollerblock base aborbs vibration which actually acts as a decoupler rather than a "hard coupler" as the Rollerblocks may seem. A block of wood hardly absorbs the vibration and actually couples the component to the shelf. Miraculously these fake Rollerblocks seem to work regardless. Then an idea came to me. I wanted to make a better base for these spoon bowls, something that would absorb the vibrations, like the base of the true Rollerblocks does. Then it hit me. Mount the spoon bowls on a Vibrapod using a little blu tack. This worked great. Doing an A/B comparison between using Vibrapods only and then sticking the spoon bowls and a marble on the Vibrapod I found that the addition of the spoon and marble under the Vibrapod yielded the same results as the DIY wood rollerblocks but was more refined and warmer sounding. When I used Vibrapods only, the sound seemed warmer and images were tight but it seemed they ultimately smothered some air and dimension of the soundstage. Again, combining the spoon and marble on top of the Vibrapod yielded a warm, tight and refined sound with all the air and dimension the wood block rollerblocks displayed.
Again, just use a Vibrapod as the base for the spoon bowls using a little blu tack to keep it in place. Try it out!
