i wouldn't try to use one as a stand, but Jon Risch has plans for tube traps that would work perfectly for your problem. You can read the dirrections at the link provided.
You could make the unit reasonably small considering where your peak is located. About 10 inches diameter should be fine, but going bigger couldn't hurt.
