This is deopedant on the local conditions. The natural tendency of thye AC line is to progressively filter out the higher frequencies, but being a block from a powerfull AM or FM station can change that instantly, as well as proximity to factories that broadcast EMI/RFI due to industrial processes.I usually look for the lower range ferrites, the ones with a high saturation point at AC frequencies. This usually precludes the high permeability types, so that is a clue to use.
