Re: DIY Tube amp current

165.247.192.50

Hey AAC,

Those specs, at first look, appear to be fine. The deal with current is, the amp circuitry will use what it NEEDS. A little excess is usually a welcomed asset. Sometimes the designer will under-spec the transformer in the interest of affordability/availability and you would be ahead in the game with the beefier unit. If the design employs solid state diodes for the B+ rectification then you will be able to experiment with tube rectification which "wastes" a little voltage in the process anyway.

Don't worry about the excess current... it'll take care of itself. You could use a 500ma transformer, if you wanted. You CAN deal with the excess voltage easily.

Does the designer mention a specific transformer?
Can you E-mail him and ask why the specific model?

Out of curiosity, what's the DIY project ? Have a URL for it ?
