While I have not tried glass plates specifically, I have tried other dead (solid) weights, and they do not absorb vibrations as welll as the sand bags.You must leave some slack in the bag, only filling them about 2/3 full, and making sure to burp the air out, so the sand can shift and move easily.
Several medium bags seem to work better than one large bag.
I have found that sandwiching the player between bags, that is, setting the unit on large bags, and ten placing medium bags on top, seems to work even better. The only thing superior that I hve tried is a dedicated large sand box to place the CDP in.
