Re: Some DIY cable reviews...

Conduit (Rob),

Just my twenty-two cents worth:

Besides me, EVERYONE who has tried the 89259 stock coax comments on how bad they sound with RS gold plugs! I don't know what is at work here, but I personally don't like the RS plugs on any cables, but they do seem to take their toll on the Belden cable in spades.

The finest plugs that I know of are the Cardas plugs, with some other fine alternatives that are not as costly, such as the Sonic Frontiers and Apature plugs (the Teflon ones with the non-sliding ground sleeves in both cases).

One other thing: I also do not think highly of RS solder, ESPECIALLY their silver solder, it seems to be of a low grade, poor purity, and does not sound very good. Some Kester silver solder, or some Wonder Solder will blow it away.

Since you are hearing such subtleties, I strongly recommend some different plugs and solder if you really want to hear what the cables are doing, any of them!
