Re: Fine tuning subwoofers to main speakers....

"Can you provide more details about the "mass" you are adding? What are you using, and in what quantities and configurations?"

Sure. It's 3M Window Weld. This material is dense/non-resonant and sticks like no tomorrow. I mold it into a ball the size of the acoustic disc and stick it to the top disc. One can make a bigger ball if needed for more mass.

On another subwoofer I had, I just molded it into a ring, much like an o-ring, and placed it around the dust cap where the dust cap and the cone were bonded. Be aware that if the cone/dust cap are made of paper, U will most likely destroy the cone/dust cap if U try to remove the Window Weld! On a polymer cone material, it is no problem.

It comes on a roll and is very malleable. U just remove a small portion and shape it where needed and stick. It is great for dampening driver baskets too due to it's non-resonant nature.

I know of one high end speaker manufacturer that uses this material as the seal/gasket between the drivers and the baffle due to it's excellent sealing and dampening properties.

It can be found at most auto parts stores or ordered on-line.
