WAF was huge for me. The panels had to be really good to meet her expectations, and decorative as well. So I went around to all the fabric stores with a paint swatch, and found a fabric that closely matched. At the time I thought GOM was too pricey...they're not really. The fabric still ended up being 50% of the cost of the panel or more probably, I cannot remember.I built the panels with a reinforcing rib in them to which I could put a nail into to hang a picture. That worked out really well – I got a dozen or so frames from Pottery barn so they all match, and the pictures inside can be easily swapped out for new ones as we feel.
And yes, I simply mail ordered the Acousticotton. It took me a while to figure out how to cut the stuff, but they helped me out with advice. I ended up just using a long butcher knife and kept is super sharp with an electric sharpener, it cut quickly and easily with no problem...and no fiberglass fibers to ever worry about. A box open won’t do the job believe it or not.
I have some construction pics somewhere and notes on how I built them. It was a couple of years ago, so I can’t remember all the details right now. If you get me your email, I’ll happily dig this stuff out and sent it to you. I am in the Philly area if you are nearby. Also, if you want a sample, I might still have a thin scrap piece on a shelf in my basement. I can just throw it in the mail at some point.
