The cones couple and tune the resonance of the component and the shelf on which it sits while the pods decouple or filter vibration. They have different effects and the best is whatever it is your system needs. In my rig the BD cones and Polycrystal Isolators extend the response at the frequency extremes and increase the sense of trasparency while the pods emphasize the mids and soften the highs. Generally Ive found some componenets like transports and DACs seem to do better with isolation while tube preamps often benefit from rigid coupling.Once again, this is highly system specific so as with everything audio, try both in your own rig and see what works best for you....
