I hope it's not too late to correct this. If you stuffed according to Thorsten's and Jon's posts here's what you'd find:1) caps and bottoms are both open
2) open part of chamber is different between top and bottom of each pipe with stuffing in middle
3) resonance chambers of each pipe differ from the other pipes.
This makes a total of 6 open Helmholz resonators in total per room lens assuming classic 3 pipe array, each resonator is different in length (diameter is obviously the same) and therefore volume, making the freqs that resonate 6 as well.The mesh on bottom that they recommend seems to be in imitation of the commercial variety, which I suspect are stuffed with fiberglass, making the mesh a safety device (defeats particles of glass getting into air from bottom.) I could be wrong on that, but it doesn't hurt to imitate the originals in any case.
Open the top caps, bro!!!! The diffusion will work regardless, as will the diffraction if you followed their directions on differential top and bottom spacing between the pipes. Diffusion is the major operative function it appears anyway. But your resonance is only half right with those tops sealed....
