Re: Making cabinets airtight

Hi Steve, ma man,

You mention "compensating for the regular changes in barometric pressure which the enclosure will experience, and the driver offsets this will produce".

Kaching!! :-))

Of course ... if you seal the driver to the box on a cold day, on a hot day the driver will be pushed forward - which presumably is a baaad thing?? And vv of course! :-))

I'm in the final stages of building a sealed sub (Rythmik Audio servo-sub) so would be very grateful if you would advise ...

Due to the way I'm constructing this, I have to make a thin slot in the side of the sub to accept the feed cable from the plate amp and its snap-on connector (the slot is about 1" x 1/3" ... the wires maybe 1/2" x 1/4").

I was originally going to seal this up with "no more gaps" after inserting the connector ... but, after reading your post, maybe I'd be better off leaving the small remaining airgap around the cables free - to let atmospheric pressure changes equalise?

Would this small gap have any effect on the acoustic suspension of the so-called "sealed" driver?

Regards,

Andy
