I have had opamps that sounded superb in one circuit sound awful in another.When I started playing around with opamps in my tuner I discovered that the NE5534 that came with it sounded pretty decent, and better than a few opamps that are highly touted around here. Other opamps beat it, though, and not the most expensive ones, either.
Any time someone offers you advice like "X opamp is the best," smile, nod, and move on. You can't tell until you try it in the actual circuit.
