Hi. Yes, thats the next step - to remove the toroid. Its inside a metal box, that I cant take out till I remove the entire amp from the case - need to take off the panel, the RCAs, and all the switches, in order to tilt the board enough, so I can get the toroid out. I hope its a wire gone loose and rubbing the chassis!A new ARC toroid isi $200. This has 4 secondaries: 385V, and 3 19.8V (regulated down to 15v)
I'm wordering if I should build an outboard chassis for the transformers, and use 4 discreet trannys or toroids, or a mains tranny for the 385v, and some linear regulated 15v power supplies for the other 3 15v supplies. At the least it'll reduce tranny vibration getting to the tubes.
How good are Acopian 15vdc power supplies- DB15E-10 for example?
Thanks for the diode replacement tip.
Samir.
