Weird Idea?? : Passive Linestage as Amplifier Base??

Anyone ever try anything like this?? Make a nice, stable amplifier platform of solid wood, hollow out the center and place a passive linestage inside?? You could drill out for volume pot extensions and the wires to the RCA jacks. This way the IC's could be very short between the amp and linestage, save rack space, etc. The "box" would be larger than necessary for the linestage but should provide excellent isolation for the components inside. Just a thought!
