Been there.....

and still have 2 Hafler DH-200 series chassis with John's 3rd series of driver boards in them from about 6 years ago, now. I like doing the work and appreciated that John would sell the kit of parts. I see that he's still improving on them today, which is great.

Mine have the power supplies, rewiring, connector upgrades - pretty much everything from the old Hafler amps was thrown out except for the power switchs, the thermal cutoffs on the heatsinks and the output transistors. So, for all practical purposes, these are really Hafler amps anymore except on the labels. I haven't sold them mainly because they still work extremely well, are quite stable even into a set of Quad ESL 988s I used to have. I've used them to bi-amp Vandersteens and B&Ws over the years. The fact that I keep them around even with tube amps in the house today should say something about their durability and reliability.

BTW, I also did some of his upgrades to the old Hafler preamps, too. Excellent stuff.

With respect to the later Hafler stuff, I've got one of the Iris preamps now. I concur with your assessment that the build quality is right up there with almost anything today.

Hope that helps.

Cheers,

David
