Pearl coolers will develop a static charge. When I used them I would attach a ground wire to wick the charge away and give better highs and dynamics. With the ground wires I never had that problem.
Without the ground wires I would notice that whenever I touched the coolers the dynamics would open up a bit but then dissipate.....probably a cause for your shift in balance.
