I was looking at one of those emergency power packs used to start cars with dead batteries (useful up here in Canadia) and wondered whether these would make a decent DC power supply for a low voltage preamp or DAC. Has anyone tried these things as power supplies? Basically the thing is a battery and charger all in one, with a 12VDC output. The one I'm looking at buying (Canadian Tire for you fellow Canucks) has a 15A capacity, so with a low drain solid state preamp I'm thinking that the thing would last quite a while before it needed recharging. At $40 CDN for a 12VDC power supply, this looks like a potential major bargain. The fact that it's small and decently designed are pluses. It outputs the 12V through a cigarette lighter plug so no big clamps either. It'd be a cinch to wire a new output.I'd appreciate your thoughts before I end up burning down my house.
Thanks!
