A shunt is a circuit path between + and ground. If you put a shunt resistor in between your source and amp you can reduce the voltage (volume) of the signal. I've never modded a CDP so I don't know about the application you're talking about.Bridging is adding a signal path to both leads on the device. To bridge a cap with another component simply solder the leads of that component on to the leads of the cap. If you add a cap you'll increase the capacitance. If you bridge a resistor with a resistor you'll decrease the overall resistance.
