Re: Behringer A500 power supply mods

Don't waste your time beefing up the el caps. Try shielding the transformer and replacing the stock feet. I did a few things inside my Crown amps. 1. I isolated the transformer from the chassis. This tweak offered huge gains in clarity and top end extension. I used a 1/8" thickness of Microsorb and a 1/4" thickness of EAR C-1002 under the transformer. 2. I shielded the transformer using a layer of TI Shield. I added a 12ga ground wire to the shield. Next I added a layer of Stillpoints ERS material around the TI Shielding. 3. Replaced the stock 5 way binding posts with Cardas Rhodium plated copper. 4. I used a Vibrapod and 1" thick arcylic stand under the amp to isolate from the floor. The amp is isolated on a Vibrapod / Vibracone combination. I also tried using EAR C-1002 feet from Percy. The EAR product sounded very good on the cheap, but the Vibrapod combo provided a more realistic soundfield. 5. And last....I added a pair of Shakti On Lines to the power cord and replaced the ac plug with a Wattgate 330.

I know the discript up top sounds more expensive than the price of a couple caps, but the sound quality equaled the reproduction I heard with amplifiers costing 2 and 3 times the price.

Happy tweaking..........
Alan
