It's very hard to make 'roll your own' cables 'gas tight', which it takes to prevent tarnish/oxidation. However, sterling silver (nickel UUUGGHH) added are very slow to tarnish. If you have a clean air environment don't worry about the tarnish/oxidation : it will actually enhance the conductivity of the silver, PROVIDED there are NO halogen (sulfur bearing) compounds in the air that contacts the silver.Happy Listening !
