There are a number of variables involved, and I experimented with a number of them, and found to my dismay, that you could not scale or extrapolate too much from a known good set of parameters.

Yes, you can use thicker material of the same starting density, and not compress it down any more than the final design density, but there is a limit. 8" can be done OK, but I don't think that 10" would be a safe bet, even with some compensating extra compression.

BTW, I would use a spacing of 2.375", or an inner diameter of 13.25" for an 18" outer diameter.

The 18" diameter is about as large as I would attempt, as the large size is very unwieldy and difficult to manage and work with, ESPECIALLY of you have not ever done one before.
