...money can buy. They're used because they're inexpensive and volumetrically efficient. I've replaced the 'lytics in many tubed* pre- and poweramps, always to good sonic effect. This works better in tubed equipment, where the 630VDC-rated Solens are small enough to use.All of these caps have an aural character, and I'm not too fussy about what I use as long as it's NOT a 'lytic. I'd start by seeing what Solens will fit in the chassis.
* In solidstate equipment, generally I replace the inexpensive 'lytics with smaller-value BlackGates.
