I wish I could give you alternative recommendations, but the truth is I'm not sure what I would ultimately use myself without testing a bunch of resistors in an attenuator setting.

If your willing to pay the sort of prices AN tants go for, you really really owe it to youself to work out the attenuation level you mostly listen too, then buy a suitable resistor or two from each family/brand/type your interested in and audition them first. If SMD's (or MELFs whatever) are an option, listen to them too. At least thats the route I'd take, and probably will eventually.

Off the top of my head, a Dale RN65 + Vishay S106 combo would be a safe bet. The RN65's although cheap and plentiful, are really well balanced and dont do anything offensive. The Vishays on the otherhand have resolution galore but may sound overly cold if its the only thing you use. I've used them as a combination in tube circuits with great results.
