I tried solid core 8 AWG wire spiral wound. Didn't do a damn thing, but looked a lot like the original. Researched the science of this RFI control device and realized why: it takes a particular combination of metals to effective draw the RFI to it instead of to your cable, not just any thick spiral wire. I don't know the particular combo that PWs use, but they are very effective in my system, and they turn out to be a bargain at the list price.
