Hi Craig,I agree with pkell44 - go with the 12 awg ribbon coil. If its DCR is around 0.3 ohms instead of 0.38 for the stock inductor, all that will happen is you'll attenuate the base signal less - ie. you'll get more base. If this worries you (most people love it! ;-) ) then you could always go to the next size down ... several years ago you could buy (Solo) ribbon coils in 14awg, as well as 12awg, so I'm assuming they're still available? These would have more DCR than 12awg.
I'm afraid I cannot believe using a wire of 2mm diameter (12awg) is a good thing, sonic-wise ... even for base wires. The fact that the ribbon coil has the same overall guage and is much thinner (0.075mm, I believe) is a definite plus in my book. And the fact that the DCR is 20% less is a bonus - zero DCR is the (unobtainable!) aim!!
