msb link dac - no analog output - help needed

The incoming digital signal locks on both toslink and coaxial, jumpers on J14 are set on pins 1 and 2, analog pass through works, but when I try to get analog output from cd, instead of music I get only a muffled sound and the woofer cones move in and out as the volume pot crosses the attenuator settings. Any advice as to potential source of problem or remedies would be welcome. The dac has not been modded.
