I don't think the performance of units using the TA modules is the issue, but rather the lack of available replacements. I also own a Kenwood Model 500 integrated (see link). Another dual mono behemoth which uses a discrete output. Sonicly, my Model 500 is no match for my 9100, although I have no clue how close either of my Kenwood's are operating near original specs.I've been using my 9100 for over a year, driving a pair of Magnepan SMGa's, and I'm still impressed by the performance. With the right source and cables, it really shines :-)
