I have just completed my own Sonus Faber Cremona Auditor Wanna Be speakers. They sound like the 10,000 a pair Guarnari speakers and cost me about 500.00 each instead of 5000.00 each.Sonus Faber tries to cross over the woofer in a range that does not break up a male or female singer. So basically you want to run that puppy out to at least 3500 hz. That is where I have mine set.
With your 7 inch driver you could run it out to 5,000 hz but this is only a few keys up on a piano....
I run a double order crossover 12db slope, so with the speakers impedance you should have 18 db all together. This sounds very good and natural. I also use 12 db slopes at the mid tweets, and my ribbons. Then use a good quality wire wound resistor to get the volumes matched for even spectral results often referred to as a flat speaker response. LOL
Measure the DC ohm resistance of your drivers to make sure you know their impedance before ordering crossover items. For instance an 8 ohm speaker will measure somewhere between 5.8 and 6.5 ohms. A 4 ohm speaker will be at 2-3 ohms. You have to check cause some of these Scan Speaks measure at 4.7 which is 6 ohms and this effects your crossover selection.
Speaker City is an invaluable resource for me. I usually ask for Frank. You can email them at www.speakercity.com. They have Sonus Faber kits as well.
Top rate people. Email me at jim_howard_pdx@yahoo.com and I will forward on details and pictures of my speaker project.
Cheers.
