FYI ... banana plugs

I've spent several days trawling the Net to see if I could find some good but not expensive banana plugs (because my modded speakers currently have banana sockets hanging out the back instead of binding posts).

If you believe, like me, that copper is desirable for the metal underneath the gold plating - rather than the more commonly used brass - there ain't much choice. If you also believe that big chunks of metal are not as good as minimum-metal designs, you are even more restricted!

I personally believe Eichmann Bayonet Plugs are up there with the best but, as I needed 12 banana plugs in all, $US150 plus shipping was a bit OTT!

I found there are two other suppliers of minimum-metal, gold-plated-copper banana plugs ... these are made of thin sheet metal, bent round in a cylinder, rather than being a solid plug or a barrel with expanding tines. So they are similar in concept to the Eichmanns.

Audioquest's look nice and solid, as the contact "cylinder" is backed by a knurled knob which you can grasp comfortably. These are US$22 for a set of four and are available from several Net shops.

However, a cheaper version is available from the German company, Multi-Contact (MC) - Part No. LS4, 22.1005. This does not have the convenient "barrel" of the Audioquest BPs and so would have to be soldered and heatshrinked to the cable, but is much cheaper.

You can find MC at:

Regards,

Andy
