Forget the separate ground; it is both illegal and dangerous. Have your circuit breaker panel replaced and the service ground renewed if this stuff is at all questionable. This will make your sound better and improve your overall safety level.Be sure to have at least four separate 20-ampere circuits run to your audio system if there is capacity on the panel. This will do more for your sound than even multi-kilobuck power conditioners with a single line. Much of the cost is for labor, so running four lines is not that much more than a single line. Don't scrimp on the ground: use a separate safety ground wire for each circuit.
I'd use Romex with ground for power amps and armored cable for digital sources. If you want to get really fancy, there is some new Romex-type approved cable from Acrolink (Japan) with second-generation polyolefin insulation and six-nines copper wire, but it is very expensive. Let me know if you want contact information for the distributor.
