I agree with you on most points, but I hope no one interprets what you wrote to mean that rigid couplers can not have a positive effect on a system, particularly when a set of footers will be the only vibration management tweak implemented.Like you, I do not think that rigid couplers alone are a complete solution, although they can play a role in a vibration management solution.
I do believe that for folks who want to do some light-duty tweaking in this area, rigid couplers such as cones may offer the type of improvement they're looking for, while not being either costly or difficult to implement (as one could infer from my post above, I believe the same holds true for compliant footers). For folks looking to implement a more thorough solution, I agree that isolation becomes very important. I would also agree if you were to say that the more comprehensive a vibration management solution becomes, the more predictable the results will be across all gear in all environments.
