nice to know there is a good reason to choose #1 ... that's what I (as someone with no EE knowledge) had thought would be best.

However, can you possibly explain:

* why "getting the rectifier bridge away from the rest of the amp" is a good thing? I can understand why keeping the transformers away from the amp modules is a good idea but what "interference" does the rectifier bridge create?

* what good does "adding a bit of capacitance inside the main amplifier box ... something like 20% of what is at the external PS box" do?
