It will do some good, but whether or not it will kill enough of the stairwell boom for the effort and money is the question.As for air space versus all fiberglass, it depends on whether or not you can create a properly tuned pressure-based trap, or whether you do not have enough air volume and the proper amount of pressure resistance (fiberglass layer density and depth) to do this.
One thing is for sure, if the edges leak air, it would be best to use all fiberglass, and forget about trying to implement a pressure-based trap.
